We’re incredibly proud to share that Professor Bob Phillips, Director of the Candlelighters Supportive Care Research Centre, has been recognised in the 2025 Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) Awards.
Bob received a Members Award for his outstanding contribution to paediatric research through his leadership of Archimedes, a long-running section of the ‘Archives of Disease in Childhood’ – the official journal of the RCPCH.
Archimedes tackles real-life clinical questions from paediatricians by reviewing existing research and summarising it in a clear, practical way.
In an area like paediatrics, where research can be limited in some areas, Archimedes has played a vital role in bringing evidence into everyday practice for clinicians across the country and beyond.
Over the past 20 years, Archimedes has answered more than 400 questions and now runs a popular monthly podcast with thousands of listeners.

Bob has nurtured and grown Archimedes over the years, supported by a dedicated network of volunteers – healthcare professionals who have contributed articles and helped shape the section’s success.
The RCPCH praised Bob for his commitment to the field, saying:
“Bob embodies the best values of members, being kind, hardworking, and forever optimistic.”
At Candlelighters, we’re so proud to work alongside Bob as he continues to drive forward supportive care research that makes a real difference for children with cancer and their families.
Congratulations, Bob – and thank you for everything you do.
