Give a little of your time and make a big difference to families.

Hundreds of amazing people volunteer with Candlelighters every year in a huge range of roles. By giving up your time, you can help us provide the best possible support for children and families.

Why volunteer?

Help families

Our volunteers’ top reason for donating their time is to support children and young people with cancer and their families. Every role contributes to the bigger picture, helping the charity run smoothly and efficiently. Volunteers enable us to achieve more—whether by assisting at events, conducting research, or spreading the word!

Develop new skills

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, whether practical or soft skills. It’s ideal for those exploring careers or gaining experience. Regular volunteering shows commitment and passion—valuable for any CV! After three months, we can provide references for regular volunteers. You’ll also have a dedicated supervisor for guidance and support.

Support wellbeing

Volunteering boosts confidence, self-esteem, and mental wellbeing. At Candlelighters, we offer a welcoming environment where volunteers can connect with like-minded people and the wider community. We prioritise wellbeing, providing a 24/7 confidential mental health hotline and covering reasonable expenses. Most importantly, we make space for fun!

About Candlelighters

Find out more about Candlelighters and why we need your support.

"It’s a super friendly and inclusive organisation so you are bound to enjoy yourself. I initially felt apprehensive about working in an office with no prior experience but the infrastructure they have in place to support volunteers is exceptional. I have learnt so much from my colleagues and they were always there to assist me and help if I was uncertain about anything. It has been deeply rewarding knowing that the hours I put in contribute towards making cancer a little less difficult for young patients and their families! I would describe my experience as fun – I have genuinely had so much fun volunteering in the fundraising office, it is a super friendly and positive environment to be a part of."
