A special thank you for Volunteers’ Week

04 Jun 2025
Charity news
Gaby Stead

The 1st-7th June is Volunteers' Week, a time to celebrate the amazing work our volunteers do to support families.

At Candlelighters, we’re proud to have an amazing community of volunteers who support us in a wide variety of roles – from behind-the-scenes office work and front desk duties at our support centre, to cheering at challenge events, taking photographs, and much more.

Our CEO, Emily, says, “As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week at Candlelighters, I want to say a huge heartfelt thank you to every one of our amazing volunteers who so generously give their time, energy, and compassion to make a real difference to families affected by childhood cancer across Yorkshire. With such a large region to cover, we simply couldn’t do it without you.”

Our Volunteering Team have been crunching the numbers on last year’s support and the facts are incredible; last year a brilliant 225 people volunteered 3,954 hours to Candlelighters, saving the charity a huge £100,000! The difference that this makes to families affected by childhood cancer is truly amazing and could help to fund 80 family holidays, 1,398 hours of talking therapy, or 166 new patient grants. You can read our full Volunteer Impact Report below.
