What are fundraising groups?

Fundraising groups are groups of people that have come together to fundraise on behalf of Candlelighters. They work closely together to raise vital funds for children and young people with cancer.

These groups are often run by committees who will oversee the planning and execution of any fundraising activities. They can organise any type of fundraising, but often focus on events like balls or lunches.

Current fundraising groups

Ilkley

Our longest standing fundraising group is Ilkley Candlelighters, formed in 1982 by sisters Rosemarie and Liz. Over the last 40 years, the group have raised over £1 million for Candlelighters, focusing funds on our research. Ilkley Candlelighters organise a range of events including balls, auctions, and street collections. The committee welcomes new members - to get involved or find out more, contact Chair Alison Clay, at [email protected] or Prize Coordinator Sally Roulston, at [email protected].

Harrogate

Harrogate Candlelighters is another longstanding fundraising group, which largely raises funds through legendary balls with enchanting themes such as Narnia, Casino Royale and Apres Ski, to name just a few! In their time as one of our fundraising groups, they have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to help fund vital support and research. Anyone interested in joining the friendly Harrogate Candlelighters committee can contact with any questions.

Knaresborough

Knaresborough Candlelighters support children and families by fundraising through a number of smaller events, including tribute nights and ladies lunches. They are always interested in offers of sponsorship from individuals, companies, and volunteers for the committee or events. Julie Addyman is the Chair and can be contacted at [email protected] with enquiries.

Want to set up your own fundraising group?

Teams are the new way of fundraising for Candlelighters as a group of friends, family, or local community, with more flexibility than traditional fundraising groups. Find out more about setting up a Team or speak to our fundraising team for advice.
