Meet the team: Team Elliot

Elliot Award

We’d like to introduce you to another of Candlelighters’ wonderful fundraising teams…

Elliot’s fundraising journey started six years ago when he decided – aged six(!) – that he wanted to raise money for poorly children to help them and their families.

In 2019, Elliot climbed Scafell Pike, with snow and temperatures as low as -15C, and in 2021, he and his brother became two of the youngest in the country to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks, in aid of Candlelighters.

Team Elliot

Along with his brother Joey, dad Richard and uncle Rob, and many others, Elliot has now raised over £27,000 for Candlelighters – an absolutely incredible total! We were so delighted to see Elliot recognised at the star-studded Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards in November in celebration of everything he has done for Candlelighters.

We caught up with Elliot to hear more…

What motivated you to set up a team to support Candlelighters?

“I wanted to find a way of helping poorly children. I’ve supported Candlelighters since I was 6 and we’ve managed to raise over £27,000.”

“People have been amazing and kept supporting us as we take challenges on over the years, and I just want to try make things better. I have epilepsy and dyslexia and I want to show you can achieve anything if you believe and work hard enough.”

Do you have a favourite challenge or event that stands out from your fundraising journey?

“Completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks with my little brother. He was only 7 and I was so proud of him!!”

What is the biggest challenge your fundraising team has faced while fundraising and how did you overcome it?

“I think learning that it’s ok to fail, and that starting a challenge is better than never trying.”

What’s the best piece of advice you have received about Fundraising?

“I met Ant Middleton after the Scafell summit and he told me to never stop climbing.”

Elliot and Richard

At Candlelighters, we continue to be amazed by Elliot and his family, and we want to thank them for their determination and generosity. We can’t wait to see what they take on next!
