This month we would like to celebrate The Alchemist Bar & Restaurant on Greek Street for their fantastic fundraising efforts for Candlelighters.
Throughout November and December, The Alchemist ran a nationwide festive fundraising campaign across the UK with Candlelighters as the chosen charity for the Leeds restaurant. They asked customers to leave a £1 donation on their bill to charity, with fantastic results! The team’s efforts raised an incredible £5,180 for Candlelighters which could fund respite holidays for five families affected by childhood cancer. These holidays are so important to families as they allow them to get some time away from the overwhelm of living with childhood cancer and make precious, happy memories. This brilliant amount raised by the Greek Street team was the highest raised by all their chain restaurants in the UK, showcasing the amazing support from staff and customers.
Ben Spargo, the Regional Business Development Manager at The Alchemist spoke about the scheme saying, “During the festive period, The Alchemist like to spread a little extra Christmas cheer by helping raise money for local charities. A £1 discretionary contribution is added to each bill. Our venue on Leeds Greek Street loved supporting Candlelighters in 2024. The team got to know the charity throughout the year at events and regular visits, so it was easy for the staff to recognise the impact they could have on children and families affected by cancer through raising funds for the charity. We are thrilled to have raised so much money for this amazing cause.”

The amount raised allows Candlelighters to continue providing vital emotional, practical, and financial support to families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire. Their kindness and generosity will not be forgotten.”
