Today we’d like to introduce you to one of Candlelighters’ fabulous Teams – Team Leeds City College – who have raised over £2,200… “Hi! We are Tom, Olivia, Alisha and Laura and we make up the Leeds City College Candlelighters Team. We are all responsible for creating and delivering a wide variety of innovative and creative events, designed to inspire and develop students and their next steps as well as engage and celebrate staff. As a team at Leeds City College, we strive to create projects that impact our learners, staff, and the local community. Much of our work focuses on inclusivity, sustainability and social action. We are a proud Candlelighters Team and try to incorporate fundraising where we can!” “Our team has worked with Candlelighters for 4 years. This began with running the Brightsparks Challenge (where teams of employees and students were tasked with turning tea-lights into the biggest pot of money that they can, competing with other teams across the county to see who can take the crown of ‘Candlelighters Brightest Sparks) and then we moved into other forms of fundraising and staff volunteering. Cancer is something that sadly will in some way affect all people. We have all experienced the impact Cancer has on our lives as adults. We cannot comprehend the impact it has on young lives and their families. We strive to help in any way possible to give those who are going through such a difficult time the support they need. Over the years we have built a strong relationship with the charity and a deep understanding of what the organisation does. This coupled with the gratitude we receive from any fundraising we do motivated our team to continue to fundraise for Candlelighters. We are very grateful for this opportunity to be a team.” Tell us about some of the fundraising you have done for Candlelighters… “A big part of our fundraising effort for Candlelighters is the Brightsparks Project. This is where our college learners are challenged to conceptualise and deliver a fundraising event using a small starter pot of money. Through this project, we have seen countless young people demonstrate creativity, innovation and teamwork all to raise as much money for Candlelighters as possible. This has been an absolute pleasure to witness.” “We wish everyone had a deeper understanding of the impact Candlelighters has on young people and families. At every fundraising event we host, we often have several people who discuss their experiences with us, whether it’s a personal experience, a family member or a friend. Candlelighters have supported a number of these people, and the support means so much to them. Just a small donation can make a huge difference to a family’s life.” And what’s the best piece of advice you would pass on to anyone thinking about fundraising for Candlelighters? We’re so grateful for the support from Team Leeds City College and can’t wait to see what amazing ideas they have for fundraising in 2025 and beyond… Find out more about setting up a Team to fundraiser for Candlelighters here.
