We are so pleased to announce that our latest Company of the Month is Bettys York!

The well-known institution, Bettys Café Tea Rooms, has a rich and fascinating history. Our journey with Bettys York began more recently in October 2022 when Candlelighters was nominated as Bettys York’s branch charity by a member of their kitchen staff who had recently lost her cousin to childhood cancer. We are so grateful that the whole of Bettys York supported the decision to select us as their charity of the year for 2022/23. Since then, we have been even more grateful for the consistent support that they have given us.

So far, Bettys have been involved in a wide variety of fundraising activities including seasonal events such as Halloween raffles, selling toffee and chocolate apples for Bonfire Night and a Christmas raffle and quiz night. They also hosted a fundraising day at St Crux Hall in York and have an ongoing tuckshop, as well as bingo, lottery, and staff sales – amazing!

Not only have Bettys contributed through fundraising, but they have also shown their support to our family support groups. They kindly donated Afternoon Teas to support our Mums Groups and donated teabags to the hard-working NHS staff on the children’s wards at the hospital.

Bettys York’s Charity Coordinator, Heather Lister, said, “It has been a joy to raise money through our various events, raffles, charity evenings and sponsored events.

We have particularly enjoyed getting to learn about the support Candlelighters provides to the children and their families and it has been a pleasure to help with some of this by providing tea bags, afternoon tea supplies and advent calendars.

A big thank you to Candlelighters for the amazing work that they do.”

Bettys also have many more exciting activities to come! They’ve planned more themed quiz and meal nights, and some of the brave members of the team are taking part in the Candlelighters Abseil. We hear they’re also planning to take part in our annual Pink It Up campaign and will be participating in an East Coast walk and Yorkshire Marathon Relay!

Our Partnerships Executive, Iain, said, “It’s been an absolute pleasure to have Bettys York as charity partners.  Heather Lister (charity committee chair) and all the team at Bettys have been incredible with their fundraising efforts so far and have hosted some great events to raise much needed funds for Candlelighters. It’s great that they have been able to support the charity not just through fundraising but by also providing Bettys treats for our family support groups. They have so much more planned this year and it will be amazing to learn how much they have raised at the end of the partnership.”

Thank you for your brilliant support, Bettys York!
