We would like to say a huge thank you to The Albie Sugden Foundation, who have supported Candlelighters with a grant of £10,000 to fund Champ’s Pantry and play provisions at Leeds Children’s Hospital. Albie’s parents, Jane and Luke, established the Foundation to continue his legacy, with two core aims: “As a Candlelighters family ourselves, we’ve experienced first hand the incredible impact their support has during the most difficult of times. The friends & family of the Albie Sugden Foundation have been working tirelessly to raise funds and we are so proud to be able to support Candlelighters in their vital work. We do it for Albie, and the hundreds of children diagnosed with cancer every year.” Jane, Albie’s Mum Their generous support helps Candlelighters continue our vital work supporting families of children with cancer across Yorkshire. Champ’s Pantry: eating nutritious food while staying in hospital can be challenging and expensive. Champ’s Pantry is our meal service for parents and carers staying at Leeds Children’s Hospital with their child. It is stocked with: Healthy ready meals Dried and tinned foods Fresh fruit Other essentials to help supplement daily meals Parents and carers can place daily orders through our Family Support Workers, who will deliver items directly to the hospital. Thanks to the Albie Sugden Foundation, we can continue to provide these vital services, giving families practical support and helping children feel safe, cared for, and as normal as possible during treatment. The Albie Sugden Foundation was founded in loving memory of Albie, who was diagnosed with AT/RT, a rare and aggressive brain cancer, at just 22 months old. Despite his year-long battle, Albie lived with joy and love alongside his family until his passing in October 2023.
