We are delighted to say that the York Candlelighters fundraising group has now been officially established!

At the Candlelighters Awards in September, several award winners and nominees from the York area had a conversation about getting together as a group. Within a month, York Candlelighters was formed! The group is a great mix of talented individuals who live all around York and are passionate about building support for Candlelighters in their home town.

So who makes up the committee?

The Galvanising Gallimores: always up for a challenge and great ambassadors of Candlelighters, Mark is our Chairman and he is supported in life and on the committee by his wife, Helen, who is our Secretary. Mark and Helen are also Candlelighters parents.

Right on the Money Rose: Rose is the Treasurer and has a background in PR and Communications, so brings a wealth of knowledge to the group, both as a parent and as a professional.

Social Media Simon: Simon is Deputy Chairman and a guru of all things social and media, so a welcome addition to the group for raising our profile and gathering new support.

Crafty Chrissie (and her dexterous friends): retired teacher Chrissie can turn her hand to anything to help fundraise for Candlelighters.

Just do it Jo: Jo has been fundraising for Candlelighters for a number of years as a parent and now joins York Candlelighters as Deputy Treasurer and is a driving force behind our events.

The Dynamic Desmonds: Bill and Pauline have been distributing, collecting and counting money raised in our collecting tins and bottles for over 25 years, and are delighted to be continuing this through York Candlelighters, with the support of a great team.

Capable Kay: Kay is a Candlelighters mum and a ray of sunshine, who is always happy to bring the family along to help with fundraising events.

Remarkable Ruth: Ruth has been supporting Candlelighters since she was supported by us as a child. A lover of the great outdoors, she finds every opportunity to volunteer, take on challenges and raise funds for Candlelighters.

In the years since Candlelighters was formed, survival rates for children with cancer have greatly improved.
