We are so pleased to announce that our latest Company of the Month is Howard Civil Engineering!

This month we would like to celebrate Howard Civil Engineering as they have made some excellent fundraising efforts for Candlelighters and purchased new toys for the Play Room! In September, a courageous team from the company participated in the 15K Tough Mudder event in Skipton and fundraised for us. Overall, Howard Civil Engineering have donated an incredible £15,769 to Candlelighters!

Candlelighters is especially close to Howard Civil Engineering, as one of their staff has had first-hand experience of childhood cancer and received support from us. Ben Heywood, one of the plant yard team, had to endure the unthinkable scenario of childhood cancer diagnosis with his son, Grayson, who was unfortunately diagnosed at eight months old.

Ben’s journey inspired Howard Civil Engineering to raise as much as they could.

Whilst in hospital on one of his many visits, Grayson used the playrooms and the equipment. Because Grayson spent a lot of time in the playrooms, Ben wanted to give back not just with a donation from their fundraising but with the purchasing of new toys and equipment.

Iain Blackwood Hobbs, our Partnerships Executive, said,We can’t thank the team enough for their incredible efforts to support Candlelighters. To make such an amazing donation and to purchase toys for the Play Team from their Amazon Wish List will make huge such a difference to so many families. We don’t receive any government funding and the current financial climate is more challenging than ever, so their fundraising has made a tremendous difference to the charity and the families we support. All of the money raised allows us to continue providing practical, emotional, and financial support to families in Yorkshire affected by childhood cancer. The toys donated will provide some comfort and create some fun for the children in the Playrooms during their treatment and time at the hospital.”

Sophie Henderson, the sustainability manager, said, “I am extremely proud of the HCE team who took part in the Tough Mudder and blown away by the generosity of our supply chain and main sponsors in supporting such a meaningful cause. The fact the funds raised are going to Candlelighters, a charity that provides crucial support to family’s facing childhood cancer, adds a deeper layer of significance. Its heart-warming to know that the donation will contribute to the year-round support Candlelighters offers, making a real difference in the lives of those affected by childhood cancer. The personal connection our colleague had with Candlelighter, having experienced their exceptional support first-hand, highlights the impact and importance of the work they carry out. This kind of support can be a lifeline for families going through challenging times. It was truly a pleasure fundraising for Candlelighters and Howard Civil Engineering are looking forward to supporting Candlelighters in the future bringing light and hope to families across Yorkshire.”
