Candlelighters were delighted to host a successful Mayoral Soiree at our family support centre, The Square, on Wednesday 14th March,

Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Council Chairs form across all of Yorkshire were welcomed by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Jane Dowson. She explained to our esteemed guests, “Candlelighters may be based in Leeds but they support families from your constituencies. The Cottage we are currently fundraising for will be of special benefit to families living outside of the Leeds area, providing much needed accommodation when their child id receiving in-patient support at Leeds Children’s Hospital.”

The Lord Mayor of Leeds giving her speech

It was an informative evening with talks and tours. Our special guest speaker was David Pettit, one of our charity Ambassadors, who was able to share his personal experiences of Candlelighters and the difference it made to him, his family and his son Harvey, who sadly passed away in 2014.

Many of our guests were surprised by the range of work we do and agreed to help us spread awareness of Candlelighters within the area.

If you would like to see the work we do first hand, please contact us by emailing [email protected].
