We are pleased to say that, in 2017, we have been able to fund a year of research into Neuroblastoma, a form of children’s cancer.

The title of the research, which started on 1st January 2017, is: ‘Targeting the heterogeneity of Neuroblastoma cells in the bone marrow to improve outcomes.’

The majority of the £94,932 funding was donated by two families who have both sadly lost a child to Neuroblastoma.

Jaiden

On Monday 13th February, accompanied by Candlelighters’ Director Jo Shepheard, the families of Jaiden and Oliver visited the Cancer Research Unit at St James Hospital in Leeds to see the impact their money was having on research development.

Jaiden’s mum, Claire, and Oliver’s mum and dad, Laura and Paul, were introduced to the Neuroblastoma researchers, Andrea Barry and Professor Sue Burchill. They then listened to an interesting talk and were shown round the laboratory to see gather how the study is being carried out.

The results of the project will provide important information that will underpin a programme grant application that is in development to be submitted to Cancer Research UK in 2017.
