Students and staff of Leeds College of Art scored big for Yorkshire families affected by childhood cancer at their fundraising football match on April 18th.

Both student and staff teams fundraised for Candlelighters in the lead up to the match.

It seemed the students were confident pre-match stating that “after an intense pre-season, the students have become both physically and mentally strong enough to take on the very tutors that taught them. Think Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, in which Darth Vader obliterates Obi Wan, but for Charity.” Watching the match it seemed this confidence was not misplaced – with students winning the match by a clear margin!

Still, spirits were high as each team captain presented Candlelighters Community Fundraiser Chloe with a cheque for £1062 – a win for everyone involved! When explaining the teams’ involvement with Candlelighters, Student Liaison Assistant Kaitlyn said “Every year the Leeds College of Art football team plays a group of staff in a charity match.  The students pick the charity they raise money for, and this year our students chose to raise funds for the Candlelighters!  Everyone was thrilled to be raising money for such an amazing cause!”

Here at Candlelighters we would like to say a HUGE thank you to both teams, the event organisers and all those who stood watching in the cold for their support! Your support will go a long way in helping those families in Yorkshire affected by childhood cancer.
