In Summer 2019, Will Caygill from Skipton took on the epic ‘coast to coast’ challenge from Morecambe to Bridlington in support of Candlelighters, who supported two local children he knew, and CALM.

Will smashed both his personal and fundraising target, completing the 274km route in three days by cycling for 8 hours every day! His dad and family friend joined him for the full distance, whilst other guest riders including his brother Charlie and Mum joined on different aspects of the route.

Day 1 started with a challenging steep climb out of Settle, up the cobbles and onto High Hill Lane. At a 20% incline, this was Will’s toughest part of the course! The second leg took Will and the team through Nidderdale, followed by a climb up to Greenhow which is situated at 1325 feet (the highest point of the route). After a steep descent into Pateley Bridge, they passed Brimham Rocks and headed out towards Ripon where they entered the vale of York. The 3rd and final day took the team through Yorkshire Wolds and included a long downhill stretch – Will’s favourite part of the course – which eventually took them to the finish line at the foot of Flamborough Head Cliffs which looked out to the North Sea.

Will manage to raise a total of £3576.25 and personally came and presented Candlelighters with a cheque for an amazing £1788.13!!!

Will, your challenge sounded absolutely amazing and we cannot thank you enough for your efforts. Without you we couldn’t continue to provide the amazing support we do to children and families affected by childhood cancer!
