This April will see an endurance walk taking place in memory of a very special little girl, Holly Price.
Sadly, in 2013, at 4 years of age, Holly lost her battle with cancer. In her name, and in support of Holly’s Dad Gareth, a team of walkers will tackle a punishing challenge which will see them walking for 2 days non-stop.
The walk begins at Candlelighters in Leeds on 22nd April at 3pm and traverses across the region via a few sporting stadia, eventually finishing at Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield. Stops along the way include Headingley Stadium, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Featherstone Rovers, Huddersfield Giants and many many more.
Holly and her family were supported by both charities during her battle with children’s cancer and beyond. Holly’s Dad Gareth, who will be taking part in the challenge explains:
“As a family, we will always be eternally thankful and extremely grateful for all the remarkable, selfless, wonderful support we’ve received throughout. With special thanks to the numerous specialists, doctors, nurses, support workers, supporting charitable organisations (Candlelighters and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice especially), family, friends, colleagues and everyone throughout Holly’s journey who’ve made and continue to make life a little more bearable in such difficult circumstances.”
Redwood Events are the driving force behind the event, a company managed by Steve (Woody) Wood and Mike Wilson. As well as organising events, Woody has also worked with Gareth for some time.
“I have known Gareth now for over 10 years and he’s one of the nicest guy’s you could ever meet. When I heard of Holly’s death I felt the pain for Gareth and his family deeply. I sat and spoke with him a few weeks ago and listened to what he wanted to do for other families experiencing similar pain. This made me think how we can help him in this pursuit.”
From this conversation, Walking with Holly was born and already the event has raised £1000s through sponsorship. We have a group of core walkers tackling the whole challenge, what we need now is people to take part in the first leg from Candlelighters to Headingley Stadium.
The walk is open to people of all ages and abilities.
The registration fee (just £15 per adult and £6 for children) includes a free Holly’s Crew t-shirt.
