At Candlelighters we offer funding support for roles at Leeds Children’s Hospital. You might have met some of these friendly faces before! Like, our Dinner Lady Elaine, Play Leaders, Social Workers, the Advanced Nurse Practitioners on the ward and many more!
Here’s a little about Tracy West and her role with families we support.
Name: Tracy West
Role: Outreach Play Specialist
What do you do?
I work with children, siblings and families with a cancer diagnosis that are identified as needing additional play support within their own home. This may be to help work through some anxieties around a procedure or diagnosis, or any other difficulties and adjusting to life at the end of treatment. I work on memory-making with palliative patients and provide support for siblings pre and post bereavement.
What do you like about your role?
Everything, I am so lucky and privileged to be welcomed into our family’s homes at such a difficult time and to be part of their journey is a real honour. I often go into schools to work with siblings and this is so nice and a real pleasure too. You really get to know the families so well and they are remarkable. Seeing the benefits of the play support provided makes me very proud. And making sure the sessions are fun too.
Fun fact about your time at Candlelighters:
The Sibling Group nicknamed me ‘T Dog’ from our first residential!
