Friday 18th March saw the second ball organised by the Phillips family, largely Andrew and Karen Phillips, parents of Hannah, Luke and Harry. Harry has just finished treatment for Leukaemia.
The ball was at Oulton Hall and was in aid of Candlelighters and Rays of Sunshine, a wish making charity who granted Harry’s wish when he met Dynamo. As a budding and very talented magician, this really was a dream come true for Harry.
The ball was well attended and guests were entertained by Tom the Magic Guy and party band Heroes. Special thanks go to them and to all the amazing people who donated auction prizes, supported the event and have been part of Team Harry over the last three years.
The family and the charities are hugely grateful to all the guests for the amazing amount of support that was received. Andrew Phillips said:
“Thank you to everyone who supported us at our event at Oulton Hall in aid of Candlelighters and Rays of Sunshine.
The generosity of friends and family never ceases to amaze. Hence the ‘Team Harry’ total of £81,000 raised for Candlelighters before last night even got underway! This amount of money contributes to life changing facilities in Yorkshire for families with children undergoing Cancer treatment.”
Jo Shepheard, Candlelighters Charity Director spoke on the night:
“When Harry was diagnosed it was also a time of huge change for the charity and Andrew and Karen and of course Hannah, Luke and Harry have worked so hard to help us… Andrew took part in the first ever Yorkshire Marathon and I was so pleased to spend time with Karen and the children whilst we waited for Andrew to get to the last mile…it was so emotional….. Thank you
From then on nothing has stopped them all being involved Andrew you have joined our Family Support Committee and helped shape the future of family support. At what is now known as the Square we have supported over 100 families in the past 12 months, through therapies both physical and talking and much more.
I would like to personally thank them all for their enthusiasm and support for our work, through what has been their own challenging time and I am pleased to announce that they have helped raise a staggering £81k so far!
I am privileged to have met you all and am so very proud to know you, thank you.”
The family estimate an incredible £10,000 raised on the night to be split between the two charities.
From all at Candlelighters, thank you to everyone involved in the event, from donating auction prizes, to attending, to MCing and everything in between. Without your support we simply couldn’t do what we do.
