Thank you to the Sherburn Aero Club who recently held a Children’s Day for Candlelighters families currently on treatment.

Pilots, club staff members and even neighbouring businesses got involved and dedicated their time for free to the cause.

Julia Lillywhite, from Sherburn Aero Club, said: “We absolutely love putting on this day for all the families, and I am always astounded at the support and generosity of everyone who gets involved.”

“Years ago, my daughter’s good friend sadly passed away from leukaemia, at the age of 9. It was an incredibly hard, painful time for all the family and that is why this day is so important to me to give the whole family a day of memories. I am very fortunate that we get support from the police helicopter, Tadcaster fire brigade and TVR group (to name but a few!).”

“On the day, we give family members the chance to fly, and get involved in the face painting and tombola. We also provide a buffet, balloonist and a cake stall. The aim of the day is not to fundraise, but instead provide a wonderful day for the families on treatment to experience. However, there were donations, and once these are in, we are expecting to have raised well over £500.”

This is a wonderful annual event which was enjoyed by all the families, who are already looking forward to next year’s Children’s Day! Candlelighters would like to say a huge thank you to the support shown by Sherburn Aero Club and everyone else who helped them on the day.
