“Having the support of Candlelighters at Christmas made things a thousand times better.” – Josh, dad to Nevaeh
Nevaeh was diagnosed with leukaemia in October 2023, aged 3. She immediately began an intensive treatment plan consisting of high-dose chemotherapy. It’s likely that her treatment will last two years.
Before diagnosis, Nevaeh had been a happy, healthy little girl. Overnight, with no time to prepare or process what was happening, life was changed for Nevaeh and her family.
Nevaeh spent over a month in hospital around Christmas, including Christmas Day. While lots of children across the country were making festive memories, visiting Santa and playing in the snow, Nevaeh was in hospital with doctors, nurses and other poorly children. She missed Christmas at home, the first with her new baby brother. But with your help, she didn’t miss Santa, presents, or fun.
Josh, Nevaeh’s dad, says, “We were only 2 months into diagnosis; it was a really challenging time. Hospital is a place you never want to be anyway and it’s definitely made worse at Christmas. It was a lot to deal with but given what the hospital and Candlelighters staff did – it could have been a lot worse. It could have been a very long month and a very depressing day.”
Kind donations from people like you helped support Nevaeh’s family and so many others like them, through last Christmas.
Please consider supporting children like Nevaeh with a donation to Candlelighters.
