Candlelighters were delighted earlier this year when the Miss North Yorkshire competition selected Candlelighters as their chosen charity for the second year running.

Miss North Yorkshire is the regions official and most prestigious modelling competition, offering contestants an experience of a life-time, a window into the world of modelling and the opportunity to make life long friends and to give back to the community. As part of the competition, the finalists organise and take part in a variety of events and challenges to raise funds and awareness for Yorkshire families affected by childhood cancer, with last year’s contestants raising over £1000 for Candlelighters!

Following the success of last year’s competition, the 2016 finalists have definitely not disappointed! From black tie events, to race nights, charity gigs and family fun days the contestants have organised incredible events to raise Candlelighters’ profile in the North Yorkshire community.

All working hard to win the competition these girls are not afraid of a challenge, which has been evident in their fundraising. Led by the reigning Miss North Yorkshire Anne-Marie O’Donnell, a group of contestants will be taking on the Candlelighters Ripley Castle abseil this Sunday, while other contestants are busy preparing for the Gung Ho 5km obstacle course in May. It’s not just physical challenges the girls are taking on – contestant Laura has decided to tackle her own personal challenge and give up chocolate right through the Easter period until the competition!

Here at Candlelighters we would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all the girls for their support so far – we can’t wait to see what you do next! The finalists have done a fantastic job of raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer in their local communities and we wish them all the best of luck with the competition.
