Meet Elijah and his family. Here is his Mum, Lauren to tell you a little about their cancer journey and how your donations have helped to support their family.

‘We were first introduced to Candlelighters on Ward 31, when my son Elijah was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at 19 months old in July 2016 and they have been like our second family ever since.
Candlelighters have been part of our son’s entire cancer journey, supporting us through all the highs and lows, whether it be in Clinic, on the ward or at The Square, their family support centre.
They provide financial, practical and emotional support for the entire family, and their support doesn’t end after treatment, it’s available for as long as families need it.
The Square became Elijah’s positive association with his hospital experience, he would always look forward to visiting after any treatment or appointment to go and have a play with some toys and have an ice-lolly.
On long stays on the ward, The Square offered me some respite with a friendly face, a cup of tea, and even a massage, making me feel like I was a million miles away from the hospital, but with the comfort of knowing I wasn’t really far away.
Candlelighters also provides respite breaks for families who have a child on treatment. We were lucky enough to go to Centre Parcs, and it was such a special break away from reality, for us to spend together as a family.
Candlelighters gave us a way to process what we had been through by hosting events, where we were able to meet other families who had been through or were going through a similar journey and we were able to share our stories, tips, and experiences. The events they plan are also something the whole family look forward to, especially the Candlelighters Christmas Party! It is THE most magical experience, and a chance for us to spend time with all the other families we have met along the way.
To anyone who is thinking of doing any fundraising in the future, please think of Candlelighters. It is such an amazing charity, the care, and support they provide to families who are going through the hardest time is just immeasurable.
We will forever be thankful for all #Candlelighters have done for us as a family.
