On Friday 11th May, The Lord Mayor of Leeds, accompanied by Candlelighters Corporate Fundraiser Amy Harrison went to meet Andrew, Vanessa and Gareth at Curtis Furniture in Leeds.

During the visit, The Lord Mayor and the Candlelighters team were taken on a tour of the factory, meeting members of floor staff who will help to create the finished product.

Curtis Furniture have very generously agreed to fit out all four bedrooms in the Candlelighters Cottage with beds, wardrobes, cabinets and more! The donation is going to make a huge difference to the campaign, as the money they will save from purchasing bedroom furniture will be massive.

Andrew Reynolds from the company said, “Curtis feel privileged to be involved with such a wonderful cause.  The work that the Candlelighters team do is absolutely fantastic and as a local Leeds furniture manufacturer, we are delighted to be able to help with one of their life changing projects”

The Lord Mayor of Leeds also commented, “I cannot thank Curtis Furniture enough for furnishing all four bedrooms in the Candlelighters Cottage. Not only is it incredibly generous of them, the quality and finish of their furniture is second to none. The Cottage is undergoing a major refurbishment and will ultimately provide a much needed sanctuary for those families who have a child affected by cancer.

“Donations and support from local organisations like Curtis Furniture are invaluable for Candlelighters as they rely solely on charity funding. I would encourage any organization or member of the public to support this very worthwhile cause.’’

Amy Harrison, Corporate Fundraiser added, “It was fantastic to visit Curtis Furniture to see, and to learn more about, their beautiful furniture and how it is made. Viewing the plans and drawings of our furniture was fantastic, and we can’t wait to see it all in real life later this year. The cottage is such an important part of the service we want to offer, aiming to make life just that little bit easier for families whose child is on the ward. We are so thankful to Curtis Furniture for this incredible gift.”

Candlelighters would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Curtis Furniture. Receiving special gifts in kind like this are what is going to make the cottage a warm, homely place that families facing childhood cancer can use to relax and recoup whilst their child is on treatment at Leeds Children’s Hospital.
