Every year, Candlelighters takes part in Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer, and this year is no exception!
A parent of a child with cancer explained the importance of CCAM, saying, "without improved awareness and increased publicity, little will change in terms of early diagnosis, research, treatment or prognosis for our children”.
During CCAM it is incredibly important that people come together to raise awareness of childhood cancer.
Each day, around 5 new cases are diagnosed; increasing rates of diagnosis by 29% since the late 1970’s. In Yorkshire alone there is around 150 children diagnosed with cancer every year.
However, through initiatives like CCAM we can spread the word and raise awareness to try and prevent more children having to face this horrific disease.
This is why we need support of volunteers to come together and join in our CCAM Collections. We are working on developing a couple of collections across Yorkshire throughout CCAM, if you wish to hold one in your area please get in touch.
At current we are looking for individuals to volunteer for a couple of hours between 9am - 5pm. at our LEEDS city centre collections. These are on Saturday 1st September and Saturday 22nd September.
If you would like to volunteer at either of these, please call the fundraising team on 0113 322 9283 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are holding a group CCAM skydive to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer too! If you would like to face your fears, feel the adrenaline and take on the 15,000ft experience, please click the buttons below.
