  • Wellbeing & Relaxation
  • Peer Support Network

Talking Therapy: We understand that being affected by childhood cancer can be a confusing & upsetting time. Our Talking Therapists Paul, Liz & Jonathan offer private and confidential talking therapies, mindfulness and coaching sessions. These sessions are currently being delivered via Skype or Zoom and can be booked whenever is an appropriate time for you. If you or a member of your family feel they would really benefit from a face-to-face appointment then please get in touch with the team.

1:1 Young Persons Support: Whether you have a child on treatment, post-treatment, or a sibling, we have a trained talking therapist specifically for them. Sarah is our Talking Therapist specifically trained to work with children, to help them understand and cope with their situation. These sessions are delivered via Skype or Zoom and can be booked whenever is an appropriate time for your child. We’re also able to offer essential face-to-face appointments, as the current guidelines allow us to do so.

Events & Group Activities: Candlelighters is a big family and like any family, we like to get together, so we organise a number of events for all the family. We’re currently planning our events for the next few months! Stay tuned! Some of these events can now be held at The Square, such as our bereavement support groups. The new guidance states that support groups such as this can still continue to run under the new restrictions.

Here’s a list of upcoming events for patients, siblings, mums, dads, and grandparents!

Check-Ins from our Family Support Team: We offer regular check-ins for families. You can let us know if you’d like to have chat over the phone with one of our team. This can be as regularly as you wish, every day, every other day, once a week, or once a month.

NEW* from the 12th of April! Bespoke Relaxation Treatments: Fancy some time all about you? Our trained Wellbeing Therapists can deliver bespoke relaxation sessions.

Our Bespoke Relaxation Treatments will be available at The Square on
Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Between the hours of 10:30 am and 4:30 pm.

These will alternate weekly, to allow for dedicated days for families staying on the ward and for all other families we support. Whether you’re on treatment, post-treatment, or sadly bereaved we are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to The Square for a range of relaxation treatments available free of charge for anyone affected by childhood cancer.

Please provide your name & contact details in your email.

Our team will get back to all requests in a timely manner, where you’ll be put on a waiting list.

*All Covid-secure measures have been put in place to help you feel welcome and safe at our centre, The Square.

We also have a Movement for Positivity and Yoga Session. This is a virtual group session held on Wednesday evenings – 19:30 – 20:30 & Friday afternoons – 13:00-14:00

Peer Support Network: Family Network Groups connect family members and past patients who’ve been affected by childhood cancer from across Yorkshire. Whether sharing stories, coping strategies or simply having some time out, Family Network Groups are a great opportunity to connect with others who ‘Get it’. Some groups are held virtually and some physically at The Square, depending on the guidance given by the government.

Event dates can be found here!
