Half stormtrooper, half bride: Daniel White puts a spin on race attire!

For out-there fundraising ideas, Daniel White is the man to look to. The 25-year-old, who hails from Wakefield, has spent the last year running various sponsored races… dressed as a Star Wars stormtrooper! So far this year, he has completed the Great Donington Run, the Great Bristol Run, the London Vitality 10K and the Great Yorkshire Run, and has plans for plenty more.

Daniel said, “It raises a lot of eyebrows when you see a stormtrooper in the street… never mind in a half marathon or 10K!”.

Daniel originally ran in a full Stormtrooper outfit but, after seeing others run in wedding dresses in early 2016, he decided to mix the two outfits together and now runs in a wedding dress with a stormtrooper top and helmet.

It’s clear to see why he has chosen such a unique outfit. When he spoke to The Sun earlier this year, he said, “My motto is, if it raises eyebrows, then it raises awareness.”

Stormtrooper
From the beginning, Daniel saw his fancy dress races as an opportunity to support Candlelighters, along with the Royal Navy and Marines charity. Candlelighters, he said, was an obvious choice as his cousin Rebecca received support from us when she was diagnosed with leukaemia years ago, so the whole family have supported the charity ever since.

While he already has plenty of running medals to display, Daniel is still planning to complete many more races this year. The York 10K will be his next, followed by the Yorkshire Marathon and, finally, the Robin Hood Marathon before he deploys in October (Daniel is a weapons engineer in the Royal Navy).

What an incredible string of efforts from this stormtrooper bride! That’s certainly not a phrase we say every day, and we are so proud to share his story!
