About this Event
Come along to Wrenthorpe Sports and Social Club on Sunday 28th August to enjoy a day of fun on the bank holiday weekend.
WrenFest will feature a BBQ, a bouncy castle, a tombola and plenty of games, and will be the perfect way to spend a Sunday on the long weekend! The funds raised from WrenFest will go to 'Taylor Sheldrake's Friends for Candlelighters', allowing Candlelighters as a charity to continue supporting families who are facing children's cancer across Yorkshire. Wrenthorpe Sports and Social Club is usually a members-only club, but they have kindly opened the club up to non-members as well for the day.
The lady behind the organisation of this event is Helen Sheldrake, whose daughter Taylor passed away in 2011 after a battle with cancer, the day before her 10th birthday.
Helen has said: "The inspiration behind everything we do is Taylor herself. When she was being treated in hospital, Taylor told me that when she got better she would like to raise lots of money for Candlelighters so they could help families like ours."
"To help keep Taylor's dream alive, we started 'Taylor Sheldrake's Friends For Candlelighters'. We have raised thousands of pounds in the last five years by doing dog shows, organising Easter egg hunts and running a family event called 'Taylor's Day'."
"Our local Sports and Social club (Wrenthorpe) have supported Taylor's charity since her death and the event has been a big success in the past. There has been such great support- when I put posters up around the village asking for tombola prizes, lots of people- some of whom I've never even met- brought prizes to our house and the club for us!"
Helen and her family are still seeking volunteers who could give a hand on the day. They need help anytime from 1pm, and even an hour would be much appreciated! Please get in touch with Candlelighters if you are able to help.
Helen has added: "From the bottom of my broken heart, I would like to thank everyone who has supported the charity, and Justin and I."
