In such unprecedented times, families across the UK are facing challenges like never before, but for families affected by childhood cancer whose lives have already been turned upside down, COVID-19 is making life more difficult than ever.
Children and teenagers with cancer are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. Current government guidance requires patients to self-isolate at home for at least twelve weeks, which means they cannot leave the house for any reason other than to attend a medical appointment. This is having a huge impact on family members, many of whom are crippled with anxiety and facing increased financial pressures which can have a devastating impact on their wellbeing.
COVID-19 has also had a catastrophic impact on the money being raised across the charity sector and Candlelighters is already seeing a gap in fundraising, which we expect to worsen over the coming months.
At Candlelighters, we have adapted our family support services to ensure our families are not facing this challenging time alone. We have also increased our grant provision to alleviate the heightened financial pressure our families are facing.
To deliver our adapted family support services and financial grants, we need to raise £525,000.
We are determined to keep our candle burning and without you, we cannot make this happen.
Thanks to the support of pure technology group and Seven Video, we have been able to produce a short film to show the world how we’ve adapted our services due to COVID-19 and why it’s so important that we have.
We recognise that each and every one of us is impacted by COVID-19 and we are asking a lot at this current time. However, our families need us now more than ever and we cannot support them without your help. Every penny really does count.
By making a donation, big or small, you will help us to keep our candle burning, bringing light to families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire.
