In such unprecedented times, families across the UK are facing challenges like never before, but for families affected by childhood cancer whose lives have already been turned upside down, COVID-19 is making life more difficult than ever.
Children and teenagers with cancer are one of the most vulnerable groups in society. Current government guidance requires patients to self-isolate at home for at least twelve weeks, which means they cannot leave the house for any reason other than to attend a medical appointment. This is having a huge impact on family members, many of whom are crippled with anxiety and facing increased financial pressures which can have a devastating impact on their wellbeing.
COVID-19 is also directly impacting the money we raise to support these families. We are already seeing a huge gap in funding due to mass participation event cancellations and a severe reduction in community and corporate fundraising, which is likely to worsen over the coming months.
For 40 years Candlelighters has brought light to children and their families in the darkest of times, by providing emotional, practical and financial support. During this current crisis, the impact of childhood cancer does not stop so neither will our support for children and their families. That’s why we have adapted our family support services to ensure our families are not facing this alone and we have increased our grant provision to alleviate the heightened financial pressure our families are facing.
We are determined to keep our candle burning and without you, we cannot make this happen.
You can help us to support our families by filling our ‘Candlelighters Together Tin’.
We recognise that each and every one of us is impacted by COVID-19 and we are asking a lot at this current time. However, our families need us now more than ever and we cannot support them without your help. Every penny really does count.
We urgently need to raise £525,000 to deliver our essential family support services and financial grants, so if you can, please donate now to help us achieve our target. By making a donation, big or small, you will keep the candle burning and bring light to families affected by childhood cancer in Yorkshire.
Pledge now to donate to the Candlelighters Together Tin and keep our candle burning to bring light to our families in these darkest of times:
