The annual Deershed Festival returned on the 26th – 28th July at the beautiful grounds of Baldersby Park. Each year Deershed kindly support a charity and throughout the entirety of the weekend, the organisers chose to support Candlelighters. From donations on ticketing to tins on bars and even the Candlelighters Bubble Rave – the fun never stopped! Not even the rain could dampen anyones moods.

The Candlelighters bubble rave took place for 2 hours on Friday afternoon and truly represented us as a charity; Lots of pink, plenty of laughs and most importantly fun for everyone!

Chloe from Candlelighters said: “It was such an honour for the organisers of Deershed to choose us as their charity this year and a pleasure to be a part of such amazing event. Thank you for allowing us to attend on the Friday for ticketing and providing us with the slot for our Candlelighters Bubble Rave. The rave was brilliant and the children absolutely loved it – I’ve never seen so much pink! The amount the event raised, just over £2000, is absolutely phenomenal and we cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support!”

A spokesman for Deer Shed Festival said: “Candlelighters is a charity that means a great deal to the Deer Shed family. We have seen first-hand the vital work they undertake for families touched by children’s cancer in Yorkshire and it’s always such an honour to support them in any way we can. They make the world a brighter place on a daily basis, and brought the sunshine to Baldersby Park for so many kids this year with their brilliant Deer Shed bubble rave.”

Alongside this, Rob Walton and his family got stuck in and hosted a stall throughout the festival selling newspapers. With the kind generosity and support of the Guardian Newspaper, all profits from the sales of the Guardian Newspaper came to Candlelighters. This resulted in an amazing total donation of £500!

Additionally, the local village ‘Knit & Natter’ group made a beautiful array of soft toys which they kindly donated to Candlelighters which have already captured the hearts of lots of us here at Candlelighters!

To the organisers and everyone involved in Deershed, Rob and his family, The Guardian Newspaper and the local village ‘Knit & Natter’ group – you are all absolutely brilliant and such an inspiration! We couldn’t continue to provide the support we do to children and families affected by childhood cancer without amazing people like you! THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!
