Why does your company choose to support Candlelighters?

Katie: Candlelighters was nominated by one of our solicitors this year – it went out to an office vote and here we are! Working with a local charity like Candlelighters means that we can see the impact of our fundraising first-hand.

James: We chose to fundraise for Candlelighters because we lost a close friend to testicular cancer (he was only 17) so we decided to give a little bit back.

Helen: It was a company wide decision. The work Candlelighters does is amazing. We wanted to work with a charity that we could not only fundraise for, but use our skills and experience to support them (ICF Next organise The Candlelighters Awards!)

What has been the impact of supporting Candlelighters on your team?

Charlie: The impact to us as business is how we work together and the experiences we share at our fundraiser events. It also helps when new people join our team as the events encourage team building.

Katie: Volunteering and events such as bake sales and quiz nights allow staff from different teams across the office to come together and make a difference.

What has been the best thing you have done in your fundraising for Candlelighters?

Anne: Wow, there has been so many wonderful things, I personally have a lasting memory of the “fire walking”, which took me completely outside of my comfort zone. Each of our team members will probably provide you with a different answer to this one, we’ve done so many fundraising events!

James: It will vary for all the different coaches but for me completing the 3 peaks challenge, as well as a marathon, was a massive task.

Katie: Without a doubt, the Yorkshire Three Peaks! 24 people walking 24 miles in what can only be described as horrific weather conditions …as if the challenge wasn’t hard enough! That said, we managed to raise an incredible £10,261 for Candlelighters.

DON’T FORGET: The Candlelighters Three Peaks Event is on the 23rd May! Get your business signed up today!

What is the next challenge you will take on for Candlelighters?

Charlie: we are looking to arrange our own Sky diving event along with the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge!

Anne: We are working towards a massive milestone celebrating our relationship with Candlelighters and as such have a summer campaign of fund raising planned, within which we are aiming to have at least 25 team members tandem sky dive – I can’t believe how many of our fabulous people are willing to throw themselves out of an aeroplane!

HELEN: We will be helping support the production of the Candlelighters Awards again in 2020 with planning well under way. Seeing the Candlelighters Awards grow year on year and helping them say thank you is amazing! Seeing the real stories, the real impacts and the real sacrifices- it is literally the best event to be involved in. Fundraising wise the voting is out with the employees so who knows what they will come up with this year!

DON’T FORGET: The Candlelighters Awards 2020 will take place on the 11th September 2020. See Page XX for more information!

What would you say to another business considering supporting Candlelighters?

Katie: Candlelighters are amazing to work alongside. They have so much enthusiasm and passion. Whether it be a coffee and a catch-up to discuss fundraising ideas or if you require a quiz master for an event, they’re always available.

Charlie: I would suggest that you meet the team and visit them too! Meet the people that make the difference to the lives as that’s what sold it to us.

James: Go for it ! As well as helping people who really need you , you gain a sense of immense achievement!

Helen: Just do it! The team spirit it will generate for your company is unmeasurable, its fantastic for employee wellbeing and knowing the help you are providing is fantastic.

Anne: Don’t think twice! Candlelighters provide a fantastic service and are truly appreciative of any support and assistance provided. We love reading the updates we receive on how we have been able to help and we look forward to continuing the fantastic partnership we have with them.
