Two Men Are Raising Money For Families Across Bradford With Children Being Treated For Cancer.

Mike and Andy are raising money for Candlelighters by cycling from Bradford to Hull, then Rotterdam and on to Arnhem and then Hamm in Germany, they will also be riding to the Mohne Dam and Wewelsburg Castle and Bach!

This June, they will be taking on an epic challenge of cycling an unsupported 700 miles in 7 days to Hamm, Germany, and back to Bradford. Mike Herbert and Andy Marshall, from the Thornton area, have undertaken similar rides before and have previously raised money for charity, and this year they have decided to fundraise for Candlelighters.

This year they will lay wreaths at Arnhem for WWII soldiers as well as flowers in Hamm at the Memorial for the 56 fans who died at the Bradford City Fire in 1985. A great deal of Mike and Andy’s support has come through the Branwell House Sports and Social Club in Thornton, who are heavily involved in much charity work and have had links with Candlelighters in the past.

Mike said “We are privileged to be able to ride for Candlelighters, it is a great charity and has a fantastic target. The Candlelighters Cottage will help parents through a very tough time and if those who donate can make it happen in 2018 then we will be very proud to have been part of the effort. We thank our family and friends for giving us great support, we have had huge help from our friends at Branwell House and every penny donated goes to Candlelighters, all costs and fees have been paid”.

Mike and Andy

Gina from Candlelighters said “Mike and Andy have done a brilliant job with their fundraising so far and the support from Branwell House and the Thornton community has been incredible. The money they are raising will make such a big difference to the families we support in particular those in Bradford. When a child has to stay in the hospital for treatment, travelling to and from the hospital can be a great cost financially and very time consuming… time parents would undoubtedly rather spend with their child. The Candlelighters Cottage will provide accommodation for these families, to keep them together and close to their child.”
