How Candlelighters can help

Candlelighters is a big family. And like any family, we look after each other. Anyone touched by children’s cancer, no matter how long ago, is considered a member. Our job? To bring this family together and make sure each person can get the support they need, whether that’s a funded holiday, or just a cup of tea and a chat.

Family Support

At The Square we provide families with a place they can come to unwind and relax. Here they can meet and share with other families like them – people who understand what they are going through. We can also help families to go on holiday or get additional treatment when they need it.

Fund research

At Candlelighters, we are proud to invest in a vital research programme into the causes of children’s cancer and potential new treatments.

Funding Equipment and Jobs.

The money we raise helps us to pay for everything from Chemo ducks to equipment on the wards and clinic. We also fund the jobs of the many people who make children’s cancer treatment in Yorkshire amongst the best in the country.

Investment in Facilities and Space

We are proud to be able to invest in improving facilities on the wards for families. As well as funding equipment and roles within the Leeds General Infirmary we have been able to create welcoming and comfortable spaces there for families.  This includes a family room as well as our £300,000 Pavillion building.

The Pavilion is a separate, welcoming space for families to escape for a few minutes or hours. Though it’s part of Ward 31, it’s a comfortable and inclusive environment that’s available only to the families and children who are staying on the ward. There’s an outdoor play area for the children and an indoor kitchen/lounge where parents or families can have a coffee, watch a film or simply enjoy some time together away from the ward.
