A BIG thankyou to all that put on their Running Shoes and took part in the Wetherby Fun Run!

The annual Wetherby Fun Run in aid of Candlelighters took place on 22nd May 2011, thankyou all for supporting us, everyone had a fantastic time - for the more competitive the results can be downloaded here.

Now in its third year, this year’s (optional) fancy dress theme is ‘Cartoon Characters'with prizes available for the best costumes! Kindly supported by Up and Running and sponsored by The Kids Shoe Factory, this hugely popular family event now includes both a 2K and a 5K route, leaving options open for families looking for a fun and active community day out, and those runners wanting to push themselves that bit further.

Candlelighters is hoping to gather 600 energetic people at Wetherby Rugby Club, Grange Park, in Wetherby, to sprint, run, walk, amble or simply cheer others on in aid of children’s cancer and leukaemia!

But don't worry if you're not a runner, there's plenty of other activities to keep the whole family entertained, including:

  •  - Bouncy castles
  •  - Bungee Run
  •  - Laser Quest
  •  - Mini Go-Karts
  •  - Children’s Disco
  •  - Fire Engine and Police Display
  •  - Mums’ and Dads’ Tag Rugby Competition
  •  - Licensed Bar and Refreshments
All funds raised are put directly back into the children’s cancer and leukaemia unit in Leeds and help us to provide essential medical equipment, support and nursing staff, as well as special facilities and entertainment for the children and their families.

It also funds vital research needed to find potential cures and treatments for the different types of cancer affecting children.

The event was inspired by 12 year old Wetherby Rugby Player, George Stocker who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2008.  Whilst undergoing 80 weeks of gruelling treatment George vowed to do something to help other children like himslef.  To date George has raised over £40k for Candlelighters and has been Yorkshire Young Achiever of the year for his determination to play rugby again and help other children

George would like to thank all of his friends at the Rugby Club & Wetherby who have supported him. He hopes you enjoy the day & raise lots of money for Candlelighters!

To take part, please download the entry form here.  On the day registration starts at 11.30am, run at 1pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!  Let’s beat last year’s fundraising amount and make this the most successful year yet!
