About Ilkley Candlelighters

Each year in Yorkshire around 120 children and teenagers are found to have cancer or serious blood disorders and are referred to the Unit for investigation and treatment.

The news that a child has cancer is obviously devastating and distressing for the child and their family. From the time of diagnosis families have to readjust and learn to cope with a very different life, with many disruptions and uncertainties. Many parents give up work so they can be with their child throughout the difficult and sometimes lengthy treatments and medical care, and a key aim of Ilkley Candlelighters is to support them during this very traumatic time.
